1922IncaLand.jpg (43202 bytes) 1922  Inca Land…Hiram Bingham…. 1st Edition

This is Bingham's first book on the subject after ten years of excavation since finding Machu Picchu in 1912.  The project was so closely associated with the National Geographic Society that it is hard not to consider this a National Geographic Society publication. (It is listed in the book section) It was, however, published by the Houfhton Mifflin Company.  In fact, early copyrights of the National Geographic Society (magazine articles) are credited. Acknowledgement and thanks were given to the Society and to Grosvenor in the intro.  Bingham came from a family that published, and he was prolific.  The bibliography for the book includes his work for 20 publications, scientific groups, or speeches. In this book, Bingham recounts much about the area and events leading up to the discovery of Machu Picchu.  It has a delightful center page map of Peru and Cuzco from Antwerp, 1578.  $110
